Ride for Resilience

Get Involved!

Actions:
Join a local community group.
Or, start your own group.

Getting involved in your community, joining a like-minded group or society, engaging in local politics or starting your own organisation, is probably the singly most important pledge that you can make.

It is first and foremost a great way to meet people who live around you, socialise, stay active and make friends.  At the same time you are learning, self-empowering and becoming an active participant in the change that you wish to see around you, rather than a victim of circumstance.

Getting involved not only means directly creating change, but even more importantly, enabling change in others through leadership, demonstration, and removing of the barriers to change through creative community building.  Getting involved has the potential to enable all of the other pledges in the Resilience Challenge, weather you are setting up a community food cooperative, organising ride shares or cycle groups, teaching workshops on gardening, or encouraging your community authorities to support neighbourhood tree planting schemes.

When we get involved we connect, and not only to we create change, but change becomes a part of us.  We grow and explore, deepening our sense of self and opening ourselves up to connection with others and the world around us.

So get together and get talking about what you want to see and what you have to offer.  Be open to new ideas, encourage others to openly participate and be patient with the results.  Change never comes from one person alone but emerges from the shared energy between many people.  We need each other.  You may be surprised by what we can achieve.  Only together we can!
