We are asking you to pledge to do something more in your life which will help stop climate change. Climate change is an overwhelmingly huge problem and the effects, which we are seeing starting to happen all over the world already, are terrifying. However, it is only going to be stopped and the effects reduced if we challenge it and do something about it. Basically, we need change to make this possible. This change needs to come top-down, which is why we are going to St Andrews to make sure the world leaders do the right thing. But it also needs to come bottom-up and that is why we all need to take the responsibility in our own lives to ‘be the change that we want to see’.
Also! It’s a long ride (especially as most of us are not frequent long-distance cyclists!) and to get us there in good spirits, we need to know that there are loads of people behind us in the message that we’re bringing to the G20 and that there are loads of people out there doing their bit to make the world a better place.
So, have a look through our proposed pledges and pick one (but consider all!) that would mean changing your habits in a small but significant way to reduce the size of your carbon footprint.
(note that they are designed to work for a range of different people with different lifestyles ie. if you are a vegetarian, don’t pick “I pledge to go vegetarian for a week.” – that’s cheating.)
